SAQCC Gas: what it is and how to check your installer

A registered gas practitioner has been assessed for a category of gas work — for example domestic LPG installations. Registration is personal: it belongs to the practitioner, not the company, and it covers only the categories they are registered for.

1. Ask for the registration details before work starts: the practitioner's name and registration number.
2. Check it with SAQCC Gas on their official website (saqccgas.co.za).
3. Check the category covers your job — a domestic LPG installation needs an LPG category.
4. Check the certificate names the practitioner who did the work.

The gas certificate of compliance is issued by the registered practitioner after inspecting and testing the installation. The certificate is only as good as the registration behind it — which is why the check above matters when you're selling a house.
