Two things: installation and certification. That covers a new gas geyser, a gas stove or hob swapped in for an electric one, adding a second appliance to an existing installation, moving cylinders outside, and the certificate of compliance (COC) you need to sell a house or keep your insurer happy.

In South Africa gas installations fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Pressure Equipment Regulations. Only an installer registered with SAQCC Gas can legally install, alter or certify a gas installation, and the work is measured against SANS 10087-1, the national standard for domestic LPG installations.

What an installer checks before signing off is set out on the gas certificate of compliance page.

1. You tell us the job — call, WhatsApp or use the form. Photos of where the appliance and cylinders will go help a lot.
2. We quote it — a fixed price once we know the appliance, the pipe run and the cylinder position.
3. We install — cylinders, regulator, pipework and appliance connection, usually in one visit.
4. We test and certify — leak and pressure test, then your certificate of compliance.

Load-shedding is the usual reason people switch. A gas hob cooks when the power is off, and a gas geyser gives you hot water without the element. Many gas geysers and hobs use a battery or piezo igniter, so they keep working through an outage — check the model you're buying, because fan-assisted units still need mains power.
